Dr. Aimee Blackham
Ph.D.

Dr. Blackham first moved to Louisiana from her home state of Ohio in 2000. She graduated with a BA in Liberal Arts from The Ohio State University in 1998. Shortly after arriving in Louisiana she started the doctoral program in Counseling Psychology at Louisiana Tech University. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Hanna Perkins Center for Child Development in Cleveland, Ohio, and completed additional online training in child psychodynamic therapy during the the following year. She graduated with her PhD in 2013 and has been licensed and in good standing with LSBEP since 2016.

Dr. Blackham’s approach to therapy is based in an affirmative, feminist philosophy. She often relies on techniques and interventions that align with a cognitive-behavioral approach, and also believes that the interpersonal processes that occur between therapist and patient in the therapy session can be transformative. She likes to remind her patients that she is only a co-leader of therapy sessions with the patient, and that the therapeutic process belongs to the patient. She prides herself on taking feedback well and responding effectively to the patient’s needs at any point in time. Dr. Blackham is skilled in addressing issues of multiculturalism and diversity, and welcomes racial, gender, and sexual minorities to her practice.
